Testimonials | VA Horse Country InnTestimonials from Our Guests

“Ideally, and if I’m incredibly lucky, I’m in Kennebunkport or Middleburg. When we’re in Middleburg, we stay at the Goodstone Inn.”
– Jenna Bush Hager, Town and Country Magazine (September 2010)

“The Bull Barn was amazing. Most unique room that I’ve stayed – in a long time. And dinner was wonderfully inventive without being inaccessible. Get out your map. The Goodstone is now on it.”
– Associate Travel Editor, Southern Living Magazine

“My family and I have been staying at Goodstone Inn on a regular basis for the past four years. The accommodations are wonderful, the grounds are beautiful, and the staff is very attentive. I give the Goodstone my highest recommendation as a great place to stay in the heart of Virginia horse country.”
– R.D., Atlanta, GA

“A recent visit to the Goodstone Inn & Restaurant was a pleasant experience from the moment I arrived. With the property hidden far back from the main road, the brief scenic drive to the main building heightens your level of anticipation until you actually see the facility in your sights. The staff was as professional as can be. I was welcomed by Assistant General Manager Ms. Linda Boyer. Linda was certainly charming and makes for a wonderful host. She speaks of the Inn with a “glow about her” as she clearly demonstrates a level of passion and dedication for this wonderful place. The food was marvelous and clearly, it was difficult to say goodbye. It’s a real treat in having met everyone there and visiting this historical property.”
– D.F., Talk Radio Show Host, St. Louis, MO

“This amazing resort immediately makes you relax and takes you into the Virginia countryside. At the lodge the food is good especially in the spectacular wine cellar. Great service and accommodations. I recommend the Bull Barn. First class with country charm. We had a wonderful time.”

“What a pleasure was in store for the four of us after sampling some vineyards near Middleburg. We had heard enthusiastic comments from our friends who had been delighted with Goodstone’s restaurant on earlier visits and were anxious to show it off. We entered the welcoming lobby bar, and then had a difficult choice – do we have a drink in this hunt-country carved-mantle “tavern,” or proceed directly to the scenic dining room and bask in the landscape? And so began an absolutely lovely evening. Following excellent drinks served by our very personable bartender, we then enjoyed a truly exceptional dinner. Finest quality filet with an intriguing hint of smoky seasoning . . . individual baby romaine hearts arranged just so for the Caesar salad . . .  five-diamond fresh vegetable and bread accompaniments . . . attentive, friendly and impeccable service. The combination of ambiance and dining quality made for one of the best evenings we have ever spent. While Middleburg may seem like a lengthy drive away, anyone who has spent time near the Beltway knows that even a nearby restaurant could well take 45 minutes (of stressful traffic) to get to. Just go a few scenic and relaxing minutes longer to experience this memorable restaurant.”

“This beautiful estate is 10 minutes by bicycle from historic Middleburg. It is comprised of over 200 acres of lush, rolling green space in an incredibly bucolic and peaceful setting. We had planned to bike to local wineries and enjoy the restaurant and accommodations after our wine tastings. We found that the rolling hills pushed our limit in terms of bike riding (!), but were more than happy to stay in our beautiful room in the French Cottage — complete with toile linens, a wood-burning fireplace, and beamed ceilings. The setting provided for the MOST relaxing weekend! We were obligated to either walk or bike to the main cottage (a historic barn/stable converted to lovely reception, restaurant and sitting area), and were enthralled with our walk after dinner under a moonlit night with all stars alight to our cottage. The dinner – one of the best we have ever had (and we are real foodies – French Laundry, et al) was sublime with absolute PERFECT wine pairings. We were perfectly satiated. This truly was one of our most memorable times away  and we have had many enjoying the highest Michelin-rated restaurants and accommodations. This will give you a TRULY relaxing weekend . . . unwind . . . eat well . . . relax . . . We look forward to our next visit!”

“Thank you and your wonderful team for an amazing stay that we had with you. We look forward to staying in touch. Big hugs of blessings and joy.”

“Great hospitality, interesting room and fantastic food . . . we will be back.

To celebrate a birthday, we stayed one night and had dinner. Only regrets were that we didn’t arrive earlier and weren’t able to stay longer. Dinner was excellent — we went for the four-course meal with Chateaubriand. The soufflés topped off the meal perfectly. Breakfast was equally good, although it was hard to do justice to it after such a large dinner.

We also enjoyed the large, relatively private deck for the Hayloft Room — great for both pre- and post-dinner relaxation. Next time we’ll plan ahead more and take advantage of other activities available.”

“The Goodstone Inn is a charming B&B in a beautiful Virginia setting. We stayed in the Dutch Cottage for one night. The grounds are beautifully maintained, loved all the budding flowers.
In addition, the beds are super comfortable. When returning from our business dinner, we found freshly-baked chocolate chip cookies in our kitchen. The breakfast was outstanding with fresh eggs, gorgeous flaky croissants and luscious chocolate chip scones. We did not have time to see the 600-lb. rescue pig who is walked every morning by the groundskeeper. Hopefully next time.”
