Relaxation is hard to find and those working in the D.C. Metro area can understand. Whether you spend your early morning hours staring at the red break lights on I-95 or making sure the children get to school on time – it can be hard to catch a break.

Breathe easy, Washingtonians. Rejuvenation is only 70 miles outside D.C., tucked between the rolling hills of Middleburg’s equestrian/wine/hunt country. Goodstone Inn & Restaurant is relaxation’s ultimate destination – a luxurious, serene, country-rustic rest-haven.

Upon arrival, guests are welcomed in the main Carriage House, where smells of decadent cuisine fill the air and the stone fireplace warms the soul. Between the impeccably friendly staff and incredibly cozy rooms, this is where your troubles begin to melt away.

After unpacking in one of Goodstone’s 18 plush suites or rooms, watch the sunset over the hillside behind the estate’s heated pool. Even in the cooler months, it’s definitely worth bundling up and walking to the sunset side of the property, especially given that most rooms and suites have a fireplace to warm up afterwards.

When dinnertime finally arrives, guests are escorted into an intimate dining room with elegant décor and expansive windows. After viewing the menu, it’s evident that diners are going to have a difficult time deciding on just one item. Luckily, guests can choose from a pre-fixe menu, which offers a chance to try a little bit of everything. Fresh vegetables and herbs from Goodstone’s own gardens surround each dish, bringing a whole new light to the term “farm-to-table.” Whether you prefer decadent fresh duck foie gras or the simple delights in a wild mushroom crepe, your taste buds are in for a treat.

Breakfast is equally amazing, with Goodstone Inn & Restaurant specialties including an elaborate presentation of McCann’s Steel-Cut Irish Oats, candied pecans, sun-dried cherries, cinnamon, and heavy cream.

When breakfast is over, ambitious couples can request to have bikes delivered to their rooms or cottages for an active afternoon. The inn offers canoes to those who don’t mind getting a little wet. As spring gets closer, guests can also order a gourmet picnic (think salmon, filet, fancy cheese and wine).

For those seeking a more relaxed day, head downtown for a little antiquing and coffee sampling. Middleburg offers many different shops to explore for those seeking priceless pieces and unique finds. The Middleburg Antique Emporium or Fox Den Antiques offer an array of hidden treasures. Swing by Middleburg Common Grounds for a little coffee after shopping and don’t forget to stop in Upper Crust Bakery for one of their famous Cowpuddle cookies.
Whether you’re looking for a romantic hideaway to celebrate an anniversary or just need to unwind from the hustle and bustle of city life, Goodstone Inn & Restaurant is your perfect country oasis.
